INDUSTRIAL TOURISM ROUTE

Stories of

Know-How

The industries of the Azores are a profound reflection of “Açorianidade”—a concept coined by Vitorino Nemésio to describe the archipelago as a kind of insular incubator, where people have adapted to its soil and climate, shaping their own destiny. This unique environment, which is at the same time welcoming to people from various parts of the world, reflects the hospitable spirit, creativity, and organizational skills of the Azorean people. It is from this multicultural and inventive context that the industries emerge which, today, we can discover and experience up close, on itineraries that connect us not only to history but also to the people who have given and continue to give life to this legacy.

The Industrial Tourism Route offers unique experiences across all the islands, providing an intimate look at active industrial sites and industrial heritage, while exploring the products, processes, and the impact of their stories on the lives of local communities. On this Route, we go behind the scenes of production, learning about the origins of products and objects that are part of our daily lives and being surprised by others. We also have the opportunity to participate in the production process, learning directly from the masters who keep traditions and knowledge passed down from generation to generation alive.
