We begin our tour at the Porto Pim Whale Factory, a site—now a museum—that remains one of the finest examples of the intense whaling activity that took place on Faial in the 20th century, and an essential starting point for understanding the historical, economic, and social aspects of that activity. There, we will have the opportunity to explore all the original machinery used to obtain commercial byproducts from the complete processing of the sperm whale.
We then head to Castelo Branco for a visit to Queijaria O Morro, where we’ll have the opportunity to sample spicy, aged, and garlic-and-parsley cheeses, as well as the complex, soft-textured aged cheese.
